Maria has completed her PhD thesis on the systematics and evolution of tribe Poranthereae, Phyllanthaceae, Euphorbiaceae sensu lato at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. She has a special interest in tropical botany, botanical nomenclature and bibliographic work.
